Over 25 years CISL has brought together business, government and academia to deepen leaders’ insight and understanding through our executive programmes, build deep, strategic engagement with leadership companies, and create opportunities for collaborative enquiry and action through our business platforms.
As we begin our second quarter-century, this small but significant change to our name symbolises our renewed focus on working with Cambridge’s world-class, multidisciplinary expertise to find solutions to critical sustainability challenges – to support business leadership for a sustainable world.
CISL has a leadership network with more than 5,000 alumni from leading global organisations and an expert team of Fellows, Senior Associates and staff. HRH The Prince of Wales is the Patron of CISL and has inspired and supported many of our initiatives.
We are learning experts with expertise in sustainability. Our executive education programmes draw on our powerful approach to learning to enable participants to take leadership and become catalysts for change within their own organisation and at a wider system level. Each programme is hand-designed so that it is inspiring and relevant to our target audience.
We engage senior leaders in mainstream roles. Over 2,000 organisations have sent participants to our programmes and we have delivered in countries around the world. Our flagship 'open programme', The Prince of Wales’s Business & Sustainability Programme (BSP), is a unique strategic forum for senior decision-makers from some of the world’s most influential organisations, and increasingly we run customised programmes for major organisations to build capacity in critical audiences, from executive committees to future leaders to enable them to take leadership on sustainability.
For individuals looking for a formal qualification, we run a range of Master’s-level graduate study programmes which provide participants with access to the latest insights into the emerging issues and opportunities, a strong network of like-minded peers and a formal University of Cambridge qualification.
Our leadership groups help senior practitioners identify what needs to change within their sector or system, and take practical action to achieve this with their peers.
Our collaboratories are time-bound problem-solving groups which focus on particular business challenges such as short-termism, non-financial valuation, systemic risk and sustainable business models.
Together we call these our business platforms.
We have a global focus and perspective with a world-wide reach and impact. Our offices are in Cambridge, Brussels and Cape Town, with an active alumni network in all regions of the world.
We bring together many of the world’s best thinkers and influential leaders, including our expert group of Fellows and Senior Associates. Our unique team is supported by the leadership and drive of our Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales.
The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) changed its name from the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership (CPSL) on April 4 2014.
