For over 25 years the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) has been working to build the leadership capacity necessary to tackle critical global challenges. Through our executive education programmes, business platforms and strategic engagement initiatives, we deliver against our mission to deepen leaders’ understanding of the social, environmental and economic context in which they operate and help them to respond in ways that benefit their organisations, governments and society as a whole.
Our aim is to help influential individuals, major organisations and whole sectors work more effectively and strategically to address critical sustainability challenges and achieve paradigm shifts. Across complex and connected issues, we help leaders to develop strategies that reconcile profitability and sustainability and to work collaboratively with their peers not only to develop solutions to shared challenges but also catalyse real systems change.
Our work builds on the world-class, multidisciplinary strengths of the University of Cambridge and our international network of leading business practitioners, civil society and policy leaders.

Our expertise lies in unlocking the key challenges facing individual leaders, companies, sectors and governments by asking the right questions and undertaking the necessary difficult conversations. We are skilled at convening, facilitating, informing, challenging and inspiring groups of leaders to help them fully understand and properly respond to the scale of the challenges facing their organisations and the world today.
CISL is an institution of the University of Cambridge. Through our work, we contribute to the University of Cambridge’s mission and leadership position in the field of sustainability. HRH The Prince of Wales is our Patron and has inspired and supported many of our initiatives. We operate from offices in Cambridge, Brussels and Cape Town and we deliver projects on the ground in Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia and Australia. CISL has a leadership network with more than 6,000 alumni from leading international organisations and an expert team of Fellows, Senior Associates and staff.
